Corten-A steel plate, also known as weather-resistant or corrosion-tensile steel, gained prominence in 1958 for its anti-corrosion properties. Initially used in buildings, it found applications in bridges, trains, automobiles, trucks, and industrial facilities. Notably, the Arakawa Steel Bridge in Heinstein, spanning 840 meters, is entirely constructed from Corten-A steel.

Types and Chemical Composition of Corten-A

Corten-A, a type of weathering steel, is formulated by adding small amounts of copper, chromium, phosphorus, and other elements to standard steel, followed by special treatment. Its weather and corrosion resistance exceed those of ordinary steel by three to eight times. Corten-A variants include COR-TEN A, COR-TEN B, COR-TEN C, and COR-TENB-QT, each offering varying levels of weather and corrosion resistance.

Corten-A's atmospheric corrosion resistance stems from the formation of a dense rust layer on its surface, isolating the steel matrix from the air and hindering further rust growth. When exposed to moisture and oxygen, Corten-A undergoes a chemical reaction, forming an oxide film that shields it from external elements.

CortenB, branded as 0400NOR1, is a high-strength weather-resistant steel with chemical composition akin to 10CrMoAL. Steel, renowned for its high tensile strength and versatility, faces corrosion and rust challenges. Preventive methods include surface coatings, potential anti-corrosion rust, and material modifications. CortenB conforms to ASTM standards and undergoes hot rolled/normalized delivery. Its applications span coal-saving gases, air preheaters, heat exchangers, and evaporators in high-sulfur flue gases to combat condensation corrosion.
